Where's Ava?

8.19.2009

Books are strewn across the entire floor, clothes have been taken off their hangers and thrown on the ground, and the clothes are no longer nicely folder in her drawers (you'll just have to trust me on that one!). But I'm ecstatic because little Missy decided to take a nap TODAY! Can you find her?

Can you believe she actually took a nap in that position?

Ava has been trying to give up her naps all summer. I could probably count on both hands how many naps she's taken. If any of you have any suggestions on how to get the wee ones to take a nap, please tell. My sanity depends on it!

If she doesn't sleep, she at least has to have quiet time. She has to stay in her bed, she can look at a couple of books, but has to stay in the bed... that has worked for us. Aiden will still take an occasional nap and he will be 4 soon. Kylie quit napping at almost 3.

Grant's just a couple months younger than Ava, and when he started really resisting naps, we started waking him up earlier (he'd sleep till about 7:30 or 8:00 and we woke him up around 6:30 or 7:00). That way, when nap time came, he was tired enough where he wouldn't resist too much. And we also subscribe to the "quiet time" theory - if he's not going to sleep, he has to stay in his room for a while.

Quiet time, we do it here as well. If Avery doesn't want to go to bed, then she has to stay in her room for atleast one hour, reading books or doing puzzles. It never fails, she's ALWAYS asleep within an hour.

And then, it's great because if she does play for an hour, I get a 3 hour break instead of 2!!

I don't know how she has the energy to keep going without taking a nap. I guess quiet time in her room is better than nothing-but hope she gets back into taking naps sooner than later.
