At potty training that is. I think the picture below pretty much sums up how our last experience at potty training went. Not fun for anyone.
This time is going to be different! Hopefully when Saturday comes along Ava will look more like the picture below.
We've stocked up on yummy goodies, Ava's picked out a handful of princess dolls and books. She couldn't stop thinking about all of the fun things we picked up at the store all day. Without fail, every hour she would ever so sweetly ask, "Daddy, can we read a princess book?" Or ask for a treat of whatever else we got. So hopefully these things will be a bigger motivator for her this time.
I don't think I ever mentioned on the blog how potty training went back in Jan. One word, horrible. Our little stinker knew when she needed to go on the potty, but just decided she didn't want to. We gave it a try for 3 whole days, and there were maybe two times where Ava actually went on the potty. Out of the whole 3 days. She didn't want to do it, and nothing we would of given her would of convinced her otherwise. But I think enough time has passed that we are all up to giving it a try again. So this time around, we went to the store and she picked out what snacks and rewards she wanted. I'm going to put them all in a container so after she goes she can pick whatever she wants. So we're crossing our fingers that having a variety of things will help motivate Ava. Does anyone else have any suggestions on what worked for you?

For you it was money and for your sister it was candy! I hope that all the princess stuff you got helps. She will do it when she is ready-& hopefully that is very soon!
For Grant (turning 3 in June), we used a combination of incentives and removing other options. We put him underwear on a Saturday and told him he was no longer wearing diapers. Ever. So we took the cold turkey approach.
Now, admittedly, he didn't do #2 willingly at first, but we could tell when he had to go b/c he'd start dancing around and ask for a diaper. That's when we'd start to really push the incentives (we bought a couple of foam swords and would have a sword fight with him when he went #2 - I don't know if that would work on a princess!).
He still won't always tell us when he needs to go (because he's a busy little boy), but we take him to go every hour or so, and that works out pretty good. And we now have no problems with #2 and he hasn't worn a diaper in almost a month!
Not saying it would work for everyone, but it worked for us. Good luck! Keep us posted!
Let's hope the positive approach works. It did for Kylie... but mb was another story. :)
